I left Vancouver on a redeye flight to Montreal. I arrived at 7am and caught the bus to downtown where I stayed in one of the best hostels I have seen to date. I had a snooze in the park along the river before heading out to a favorite pub to watch the Tragically Hip final concert followed by the UFC. It was a great night, bar staff remembered me which is always good…I think.
The next day I went to meet my new couch surfing hosts, Linda and Mario. They were a very fun and entertaining couple, extremely outgoing and had lots of good ideas of how to spend my last days in Montreal. I checked out a market, a nice Cafe and finally had a St Vitateur bagel with Nutella, very tasty.
I left Montreal on the train and headed to Toronto, here I met up with my first HelpX host Bonnie. We had planned to drive down to Detroit to see the Motown Museum, unfortunately she couldn’t find anyone to mind the dogs and had to cancel. I was saddened by this, having looked forward to the trip but I understand how tricky things can be when you have many responsibilities that keep you tied to home.
I had a great night back at the St.Louis bar with Bonnie and her friend Jen, followed up by a visit from Bonnie’s daughters Emily and Delaney. We went back for an awesome dinner before returning to the bar for a couple more beers. Very cool night. We walked Dexy and Memo the next morning and I packed my gear to catch a Greyhound down to Detroit where I will meet up with my first couch surfing host, DeeDee.
My final days in Canada, I leave for Germany on Monday, only 3 days to go.
