I arrived in Dresden after dark and in the middle of a thunder storm, and there was no English language option on the ticket machines so I decided to walk to a hostel. Kangaroo Backpackers! I arrived a little wet but still in high spirits, the staff were very nice and worked out a way for me to stay for the next few nights. The first day in Dresden was spent mostly in the hostel, it was raining all day long, it cleared up in the evening though and I went exploring the area, I used a hangout option on my couch surfing app and met up with some locals who were going to a jazz show. I met up with them just in time and the show was awesome, a very cool group who performed a free gig. We then went to a few bars and enjoyed the rest of the evening.
The next day was overcast but no rain, I went to stock up on bread and cheese and caught the train down to Rathen to do so easy hiking and check out the famous Bastei Bridge. I spent 5 hours hiking the area. So many beautiful rock formations and old castle ruins. I enjoyed it so much I planned to come hike another area of the park the following day.
Bad Schandau was my destination for the following day, another 5hours of hiking up steep plateaus but being rewarded by amazing scenery. I won’t huff on about it, but, it was bloody awesome…here are lots of scenic photos.
Just awesome.
The rest of my time in Dresden was spent hanging out with cool people I met in the hostel…handy to have German speaking friends to translate for you.
Next stop, Wroclaw, and meeting up with Monika.
