I had a great second day in Santiago, I sorted out some washing and cleaning. I did have to move hotels, as I’d originally only booked one night and couldn’t extend my stay. On the way to the new accommodation, I bumped into my Aussie mate Sam, who was just finishing her Camino! We organised a catch-up, and later that evening a group of friends she’d made on the trail all went out for dinner and drinks… maybe a few too many drinks. I was very glad to catch up with pilgrims I’d met sporadically on the journey.
The next day I was up reasonably early to get to the bus stop and head to the airport. It was a long day, flying to Gatwick, then onward to Glasgow. Both were short flights, but I had a six-hour wait at Gatwick. I stayed overnight at a hotel near Glasgow Airport, then made it back to the terminal the next morning to catch a bus out to Oban.
It was an amazing bus ride on a sunny Sunday. The route took us around the west side of Loch Lomond, bringing back memories from 15 years ago when I trekked the east side on the West Highland Way. The rolling green hills slowly gave way to mountains (the Bens), and we passed through towns I’d all but forgotten the names of. After some tight squeezes along the narrow, winding roads, the bus finally rolled into Oban.
I went for a short stroll to my temporary accommodation, just a one-night stay before checking into my Airbnb for a whole week!
The Hebrides snorkelling tour begins tomorrow. Not sure how I’ll upload blog posts during this next adventure, we’ll see how we go. Rain is in the forecast, so who knows what’s ahead.
Super excited for Fingal’s Cave, whenever that day rolls around!
